Hotmaida Siahaan started Yagobi, a local non-profit in Indonesia, with the goal of equipping and empowering women. PFP visited the Yagobi project in the Siborongborong, North Sumatra region of Indonesia in 2007, soon after our partnership began. The past few years, Hotmaida has been working with 5 women’s groups—with a focus on income generation to help the women and their families rise up out of poverty. Yagobi’s focus has been on income generating projects (pig breeding has been most successful) to partner with women who are subsistence farmers. They are now also focusing on financial support for health care need through a Family Health Fund.
